O Portal da Biodiversidade dos Açores e do SIARAM são recursos digitais importantes para a investigação fundamental em sistemática, biodiversidade, educação e gestão da conservação dos Açores.
A Base de dados das espécies possui registos inéditos de trabalho de campo intensivo nos Açores. Muitas espécies são também acompanhadas por imagens de exemplares de colecção ou na natureza.
Na disciplina de Ciências Naturais – 8º ano, todo o programa está relacionado com a sustentabilidade na Terra. Assim sendo, estes dois portais foram explorados de acordo com os seguintes temas:
Dinâmica dos Ecossistemas – Interações entre seres vivos; A influência dos fatores abióticos nos seres vivos; Como proteger a nossa biodiversidade (Relações intra e interespecíficas), tendo sempre como base o exemplo dos Açores e Faial mais concretamente.
Os alunos a partir das espécies observadas nestes portais, puderam elaborar cadeias e teias alimentares de acordo com o tema programático – Fluxo de energia e circulação de matéria.
Como instrumento pedagógico foi fundamental para os alunos visualizarem o ambiente em que vivem, tendo sido uma mais-valia para o conhecimento científico a que foram submetidos.
The Azorean Diversity and the SIARAM portals are important digital resources for the fundamental research in systematics, biodiversity, education and conservation management of the Azores.
The species database has unprecedented records for intensive fieldwork studies in the Azores. Many species are also accompanied by images from nature specimens collections and/or live specimens.
In Natural Sciences - in the 8th grade, the entire program is related to sustainability on Earth. Thus, these two portals were studied according to the following topics:
Ecosystem Dynamics - interactions among living things; The influence of abiotic factors in living beings; Protecting our biodiversity (intra-and interspecific relations), always based on the example of the Azores and, in particular, Faial.
From the species observed in these portals, the students were able to draw food chains and food webs in accordance to the elective subject program theme - Energy flow and circulation of matter.
As an educational tool, it was essential for students to observe the environment in which they live in, having been a valuable asset to the scientific knowledge that they were subject to.
